ACT! BY SAGE - TECH TIP

Adding Templates To The Write Menu

Posted by Pam Mannell on 21/02/2012 @ 08:30

Just for a change this week, here is a Tech Tip for ACT! users. I love blogging; it gives me the opportunity to offer advice about so many things which benefit businesses who want to get the most out of CRM (Customer Relationship Management) as well as share some of the many hints and tips which I've learnt along the way ...

using a mail merge function will save you so much time

using a mail merge function will save you so much time

One of the advantages of implementing a Customer Relationship Management system is the ability to create mail merge documents, removing the need to look up and re-type names and addresses each time you write a letter; I'm sure you've taken the long route to complete this task in the past and it can be so onerous, can't it?

Sometimes you have lots of different templates for different reasons which are used over and over again; cover letters to go with invoices, brochures, licence certificates, confirmations of orders or bookings - this list is endless.

If you use ACT! by Sage, would you like to save time by adding them to the Write menu rather than having to browse and find them each time? Your system administrator can do this for you following the steps below:

  1. First create the template in the usual way:
  2. From the main menu select Tools |Customise | Menus and Toolbars:
  3. Select the Custom Commands tab and click New:
  4. Browse to find the file required (you will need to change the Files of Type to All files (*.*) to show the .adt files:

  5. Open the file to add it to the Command Line, then enter the Command Name and Tooltip text as required :
  6. Change the icon if required:
  7. Click Add Command:
  8. Click on the Commands tab and then Custom Commands:

  9. Your recently added command will be displayed. You can now drag and drop this onto the menu in the position you required (the menu will automatically open and expand as you hover over it):

Just like that!

If you would like help with this or any other customisation or training issue related to ACT! by Sage, please contact us as we provide support, consultancy and training to ACT! clients and are fully accredited for ACT! 2012. We're just a phone call away on +44 (0) 845 862 2150

Until next time ...
